The University of Ontario Institute of Technology is the first of two post-secondary institutions in Oshawa. It is mainly a technology-oriented facility, as its name suggests. In reality, it is the province's only university that is solely based on laptops, requiring students to rent a laptop from the school. Durham College is the second, an educational institution that focuses on providing students with useful skills in one of the trades.
This city has a number of elementary schools (K-8) to choose from, with over 25 to choose from. Coronation Elementary School, Father Joseph Venini, and Dr. S.J. Phillips are among the best schools in terms of basic skills in reading, writing, and mathematics. The majority of schools here follow an English-based curriculum, with some schools offering French-based courses as well.
