Every year, the Welland Canal, a ship canal that passes through Port Colborne and connects Lake Ontario and Lake Erie, is commemorated with a Canal Days festival. Live music, a vintage car show, food, and other events and activities, including a closing fireworks display, are all part of the festival. Every year at the beginning of August, over 100,000 people attend the festival. The Port Colborne Historical and Marine Museum, which houses a collection of local historic buildings and artefacts; the Showboat Festival Theatre and the Port Colborne Operatic Society, both of which put on annual productions; and parks like Lock 8 Gateway Park, which has gardens and fountains, and H.H. Knoll Lakeview Park, both of which are family-friendly.

Eight elementary schools and two high schools are operated by four school boards in the area. Children will attend either an English or a French-language school. In the city, there is only one private school that caters to students in grades 1 through 6. Residents must search for post-secondary opportunities outside of the region.


Niagara College, located in nearby Welland (20 minutes from Port Colborne), offers programmes in culinary arts, business, dentistry, medicine, engineering, and trades. Brock University (40 minutes from Port Colborne) offers courses in business, health sciences, the arts, and education, to name a few.
