Sudbury has a variety of appealing attractions for visitors and residents, including several art galleries and Science North, a science museum with immersive experiences that is one of Northern Ontario's most popular tourist attractions. The Sudbury Wolves compete in the Ontario Hockey League year-round, and matches for more junior organisations are held at the Sudbury Community Arena for hockey fans.
Many who enjoy the outdoors would be pleased to learn that Sudbury has a number of trails that span several kilometres. Over the summer, they are transformed into jogging, hiking, and biking paths. Over the winter, they are easily transformed into cross-country skiing trails and snowmobile pathways.
Sudbury does not have the same number of schools as other cities because of its smaller population. The three post-secondary institutions open to incoming college students are Laurentian University, College Boreal, and Cambrian College. They are well-known for their bilingual and francophone programmes, as well as their outstanding arts and technology programmes.
There are approximately 70 elementary schools (K-8) located throughout the area. Some are open to the public, while others are reserved for Francophones and/or Catholics only. Two Montessori schools (Montessori School of Sudbury and King Montessori Academy) are open for admission for those who are interested in the Montessori approach to education. Students in grades K-8 have consistently improved their EQAO scores (reading, writing, and math) over the last few years, and this trend shows no signs of slowing down anytime soon.
