Sudbury MLS® Listings & Real Estate for Sale

Homes For Sale in Sudbury: Greater Sudbury (previously known as Sudbury until 2001) is a city in the province of Ontario, Canada. It is the province's seventh-largest city by area, with a population of around 160,000 people, and one of the largest cities in Northern Ontario, covering approximately 3,200 square kilometres. It began as a former mining centre many decades ago and has since evolved into a major hub for a variety of industries, including tourism, government, and finance.
Sudbury was once a major mining centre in Canada, known for its plentiful nickel, which was highly prized at the time. Mining is still active, but it has taken a back seat in the modern era due to its diminished significance in comparison to other industries.
Sudbury has developed into a centre for government, education, and health services over the last decade. Unlike other towns, where the majority of companies are concentrated in the downtown area, Sudbury's workplaces are dispersed throughout the city's numerous districts.
Sudbury's strong Francophone community is one of the aspects that makes it appealing to newcomers.Outside of Quebec, there are few places with a strong French-speaking community, leaving native French people with few other options for feeling at ease in the region. Sudbury is home to the third largest French-speaking population outside of Quebec.

Sudbury Real Estate Trends and Information

The North End of Sudbury is regarded as a working class neighbourhood, with small detached homes on small lots that were largely constructed during the Great Depression. A few newer developments have been constructed since the 1990s. These houses are big enough for a single family to stay in. Within the area, there are also a few low-rise apartments for rental. Sudbury's South End is home to a diverse range of townhomes, hotels, and high-rise condos. The downtown area has a higher density of condos, particularly along the main streets, which also happen to be home to many retail businesses. The townhomes and residences in the South End's more rural areas are grouped together. The homes in Sudbury's East End are all relatively new, with the oldest being about 40 years old. Town homes, duplex houses, low-rise and high-rise apartments, and single detached family homes are all available. The East End has the most diverse range of house styles in the area, so there's something for everyone. Sudbury's West End is mostly made up of single-family homes and semi-detached houses. The majority of the houses in this neighbourhood are about 50 years old, with a few exceptions constructed in the 1990s. Apartments make up less than 10% of the housing stock, and their small size makes them ideal for bachelors and young professionals.

Sudbury does not have the same number of schools as other cities because of its smaller population. The three post-secondary institutions open to incoming college students are Laurentian University, College Boreal, and Cambrian College. They are well-known for their bilingual and francophone programmes, as well as their outstanding arts and technology programmes.

There are approximately 70 elementary schools (K-8) located throughout the area. Some are open to the public, while others are reserved for Francophones and/or Catholics only. Two Montessori schools (Montessori School of Sudbury and King Montessori Academy) are open for admission for those who are interested in the Montessori approach to education.
